Garowe, Somalia — Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni has sharply criticized Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accusing the federal leadership of actions that threaten Somalia’s federal system and national stability.

Speaking in Garowe, Deni alleged that the Somali president was supporting the formation of armed pirate groups and pursuing policies that undermine the country’s federal structure.

He also accused the federal government of fueling disputes with regional administrations across Somalia.

The Puntland leader’s remarks come amid continued political tensions between Puntland and the Federal Government of Somalia over governance, constitutional matters, and the distribution of power between Mogadishu and regional states.

The federal government has not immediately responded to Deni’s latest accusations.

The comments are expected to further strain relations between Puntland and the federal authorities as disagreements over Somalia’s political future continue.
